We had the 18 month check up last Friday (her being 19 months and all)--I'm a bad mommy for not remembering exact figures, but 80 percentile height (33", I think) and 30 percentile weight (20-odd lbs). Can't remember head circumference. She did impress the doctor with all of her developmental strides--over 50 words (at least), two word sentences. ABCs and counting are little more than sound patterns to her right now, but she's on her way. Doc said, "You're going to have some tough school decisions someday."
Other Soybean highlights of late:

And ice cream is a huge treat!
See if you can spot the Elf! ( Pictures This Way )
Alas, no real AFV moments. Except for maybe the mass meltdown of the reindeers crying for mommy. And maybe the meltdown of Nutcracker #6 during the "Twelve Days of Christmas." And the donkey at the nativity singing "Jingle Bells." And the shepherds distracted by the hay on the stage that had never been there before.
Let's face it, school plays are fun, especially when it's your kid.

silly

Our Little Miss is such the chatterbox that people often ask us how many words she knows. This led us to do a catalog of the words she both says and signs with consistent meaning.
We listed about 30-40 words before giving up.
As a result, we now have actual conversations with her. Granted, they usually run along the line of:
"Mama!"
"Yes, Baby?"
"Play!"
"No, time for sleeping."
"Mama!"
"Yes, Baby?"
"Bella!"
"Yes, that's your dog, Bella."
"Play!"
"No, sweetheart, it's time for sleeping."
"Mama! Play!"
And so on.
She is also quite the mockingbird. We have an unspoken pool going to see after whom she repeats the first swear bomb. We're not trying, but it's going to happen.
And by the bye, there are fewer things more adorable and frightening than a toddler going around doing the laugh from Sesame Street's Count.
AH ah ah!

Our little girl had her 15 month check up this week. She's in the 95% for height, but 30% for weight. The doctor doesn't seem to be worried, but I think he's pushing us to wean. I'm don't know if either of us is ready for that yet.
She is communicating more and more each day with both words and signs. She can tell me "milk," "water," "eat," "more," "all done." She can point out facial features (nose, eye, mouth).
We also had Open House at her day school, as well as her Halloween party this morning, and some of the observations are telling. Namely the fact that she's always first in line and apparently likes to
Diva so soon, my babe?

Today our Beanne moved up from Little Lambs to Catepillars at her day school.
I remember
On that note, she now differentiates between Momma and Daddy. She can also bring you her ball and her baby when requested, even if they are in a different room. She also likes to pretend things are phones; she holds small squarish items to her ear and says, "Lello! Lello!" which leads to the "It's For You" game.
Top one year molars have poked through (teeth #9 & 10), bottom molars soon to be appearing.
She loves to sit on laps and give kisses. Looking through books always a treat, as are Things That Go in Other Things.

This morning while we were getting ready, she noticed that Daddy had left his phone on the coffee table. The temptation to her was evident.
She stood over it, index finger aching to touch, millimeters away, but wagging as she kept saying, "No no no no no."
Ah, the moral struggle begins so soon these days.

- Mood:
amused

Even though Soybean's birthday isn't until Friday, the only day we could really have a party was last Sunday. We kept it small and mostly sane. With "Watch Me Grow" as the theme, everything was pink flowers and green. Bib and dress to match. Cupcake cake from Kroeger for serving ease.
The one area I went overboard was to knit the centerpiece/child favors. Yes, I gave kids grass.
As for the birthday princess, she had a good time, as she will when anyone plays with her. She seemed a little bewildered at the whole Cake Smash Photo Op (despite her dad's efforts to show her how it's done). Honestly, she preferred to chomp on carrots and pineapple.
DAD: That's my girl!
MOM: No, it's not!
So, another milestone survived by all.

She Walks

Again, many weeks since I've posted anything. Not that she isn't doing cool things.
Did I mention this week she started walking?

Sickie Bear

It's been a tough week, what with vomitting, diarrhea, fever, boogers abounding, and general not-feeling-good-ness.
What we have here is a fine case of rotavirus with the ear infection topping.
We're pushing antibiotics, Motrin, Pedialyte, nursing, and rest as much as we can. But you can just tell that Little Bear isn't feeling her best.

We thought of it as a musical tribute to The Honeymooners.

Pow! Right to the moon!

star struck

Standing for a few seconds at a time without any bracing.
Teething but nothing evident to the naked eye yet.
"Walking" while holding hands.
Separation anxiety typical of the age is evident--which is simultaneously sweet and irritating.
So this is my first "official" Mother's Day (although I really considered last year my first). The day care sent home a laminated poem with Little Bear's handprints. I burst into tears--as one of my SiL's has said, I've been waiting all my life to hang this kind of art!

My Parents Dig Me in Overalls

Still crawling quickly.
Still pulling up on things. Standing holding by one hand frequently.
More cruising on the furniture.
Loves to clap to music.
A bear at bedtime.
Likes mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, freeze-dried corn and fruits.
Does not like eggplant or cooked red bell pepper.
Has mastered saying "ma" syllables. (Yay for Mama!)
Loves "peekaboo."

Which means we earned another ribbon:

Baby is more and more interested in solid food--more explicitly, feeding herself. As a result, she is nursing less, and I am having to train my body to adjust with her accordingly. I still think we're some time away from complete weaning.
A coworker told me how proud she was of me that I've kept up with the nursing and pumping this long. Squeezing pumping into my work day is a pain, so I'm pretty proud of myself as well.
She's a fast crawler now, constantly pulling herself up to standing, and even "cruising" a little on the furniture. The record for walking at day care is 10 months, and if we don't make that, we're going to come pretty close. Definitely before her first birthday.
Still playing with consonant-vowel combinations, although the favored modulation is now loud. This past week she also learned how to clap properly.
She is into everything, notices everything, and laughs frequently.
I die of Cute each day.
And now, because I have been so remiss, here's Kate and a Big Fish:

I Crawl!

We have an official crawler now. Yesterday I caught her before she got to the dog's Kong.
She's also pulling herself up to a stand consistently.
Oh dear.

Bonnie Bluebonnet Babe

I have been frightfully remiss in posting milestones on Miss Bonnie Blue here.
At about 8 1/2 months, Soybeanne is growing leaps and bounds. She now wears 9-12 mos. size clothing (although her shoe size is still 1, or about 3-6 mos.; her hat size is similarly smallish).
She scoots around in no apparent methodical fashion, although in the past couple days she is crawling forward in a slow but more classical style. She and Mommy also like to do downward facing dog together. She has pulled herself up to a standing position twice now.
Still lots of babbling with hard consonant sounds. She sometimes plays with modulation, softly saying "ba ba ba" to herself. We say that she's telling her "ba ba secrets."
Top teeth have poked through. Accompanying teething rashes and crankiness also evident.
Still nursing, but she's enjoying solid foods more and more.
And, yes, there is some hair now ... enough for a clip.
It only gets better.

Garcon!

I know she's doing more, but that's all I can think of right now. I love seeing the world anew through her.

But I'm not sleepy!

We had our six month check up on Monday.
Weight: 16lbs 6oz. (55%)
Length: 26.5" (75%)
Head Circumference 55% ... all in proportion.
All developing nicely. According to the doctor, the way she sits up is more like a nine month old because her back is so straight.
She got most of her innoculations (with resulting low-grade fever) except for one of which they ran out, which means we'll be back for that as well as a flu booster. Poor baby!
We're still working on adding in solids to her diet and getting her into her own bed, both with varying success.

Lookie Me Sitting!

We are hitting developmental milestones by leaps and bounds!
- As seen in the piccie, Kate can sit up by herself for several minutes at a time. (As also evident, she seems to know what a camera is for.)
- She's been known to go from sitting to tummy and try to scoot herself around (unfortunately, I think she uses her face as a balancing point).
-She's babbling a lot, usually with hard consonant "dee" sounds.
-Lots of raspberries too. Usually at the most inappropriate time.
-Eating more solids with varied interest. Which also means that now God has put stink in the poo poo.

Kate is six months old today! (Maybe we should have a half-cake for her on her daddy's birthday.)

Click the thumbnails for a closer look at the christening gown made by a dear friend from the train and bustle of my wedding gown. (She was able to keep the wedding gown intact, you know, in case Kate wants to wear it herself. *laugh*)
